MAC 217 Brush Versus ZOEVA 227 Luxe Soft Definer Brush!

MAC vs. ZOEVA

I am a brush hoarder! I love collecting different brushes even if I have dupes of the same type. Investing in good makeup tools like brushes is very important for makeup application. We can’t always achieve the look we want by using our fingers or hands.

Today, I want to share my comparison review between the ZOEVA 227 Luxe Soft Definer Brush and MAC 217 Blending Brush. I love using these two brushes in blending my eyeshadows. Both are perfect blending brushes, but they have some differences on how they blend makeup. These brushes can also be used to blend concealer, apply highlighters, pack on eyeshadows on the eyelids and so on.

I bought the ZOEVA 227 Luxe Soft Definer Brush in a set from Luxola.com but it can be bought on its own for S$14.50 (about P479) while the MAC 217 Blending Brush is from MAC SM North Edsa, The Block, for P1,400 (expensive!).

MAC vs. ZOEVA

MAC 217 Blending Brush

For shading or blending of color or creamy products. This brush has fine, densely packed fibers that are arranged in an oval shape. M·A·C professional brushes are hand-sculpted and assembled using the finest quality materials. They feature birch, linden and ramin wood handles, nickel-plated brass ferrules.

ZOEVA 227 Luxe Soft Definer Brush

The flat, oval-shaped Luxe Soft Definer brush enables soft, smooth transitions. With an ease of application, this royal soft brush provides every eye makeup with a super soft finish, also when you have very small eyes. For a soft look that underlines seductive femininity. This handcrafted, professional eye brush is perfect for blending and shading eyeshadow and loose pigments.

MAC vs. ZOEVA

The MAC 217 Blending Brush is a little longer than the ZOEVA 227 Luxe Soft Definer Brush. The handles are different too because MAC 217 is matte and fatter while ZOEVA 227 is glossy. Their bristles are of the same length, but the MAC 217 Blending Brush is denser than ZOEVA 227. I think Zoeva 227 has more hairs in it.

MAC vs. ZOEVA

The MAC 217 Blending Brush is stiffer than ZOEVA 227 brush. When I blend using MAC 217, the product is blended precisely where I want it. If I want to add and blend an eyeshadow on my crease, it doesn’t blend above or far from the crease.

I like to use the ZOEVA 227 Luxe Soft Definer Brush for blending away harsh lines. For example, I add a dark shade on my crease, in order to make it seamless, I will use the Zoeva brush on the edges. It’s like making the eyeshadow fade away into the skin.

I guess the simpler way to explain it is that the Zoeva brush covers more space when blending the eyeshadows but if I want to concentrate the eyeshadows on a specific area then I will use the MAC 217.

MAC vs. ZOEVA

MAC 217 is very expensive compared to the ZOEVA 227 Luxe Soft Definer Brush. Because of their slight differences, I can just settle with Zoeva if I didn’t own the MAC 217. I still love my MAC 217 because of how precise it blends my eyeshadows but if it will break one day, I don’t think I will repurchase. I also have the Sigma E25 Blending Brush which I think is a closer dupe for the MAC 217 brush.

Overall, I recommend both brushes for their specific uses. If you have the money to burn, then try the MAC 217 brush, but for a cheap and great quality brush, the ZOEVA 227 Luxe Soft Definer Brush is your best bet.
