Watercolor Workshop by Liz: The Basics!

CommunePH

Learning something new is an achievement for me. I have always been a fan of people with different talents, especially to those who can make creative things. I am following Liz Lanuzo‘s ProjectVanity blog as well as Instagram account, and her talents, both in writing and watercolor painting amazes me! After I have learned that she will be having a workshop, I knew that I had to join! I wanted to add a new hobby to distract me from a lot of life’s stresses, and from buying a lot of makeup products! Hehe. I booked myself in, together with my sister. Dre of SporadicReads, and Mela, my BFF. We were very excited to join and meet Liz, and learn from her.

The workshop was scheduled September 20, but Typhoon Mario was too strong, so it was moved to September 30 at Commune Artisan Cafe, in Makati. We were served cups of coffee as the workshop started. I should mention that the Mocha coffee that was served to me was delicious! You should visit them soon!

Art Materials

We were provided with art materials such as the paint tubes, brushes, watercolor paper, a cup of water, a mixing plate, pencil, and tissues. The fee that we paid for was definitely worth it because of all these things, plus food! Thank you Liz, for giving this workshop for bargain. I truly appreciate your generosity in sharing your talents to us!

First, Liz taught us the types of washes.

Watercolor Washes

The picture shows the Flat Wash (upper left), Graduated Wash (upper right), Glazing (lower left), and Variegated wash (lower right). Learning these alone got me more excited to practice watercolor painting. Through these techniques, you can paint a lot of things!

Fast forward to the last activity, we were asked to paint a maple leaf and a beach scenery. Everyone’s busy perfecting their masterpieces. It’s a small group but full of talented people! It was an interactive workshop, and everyone’s free to raise questions, or suggest anytime.

Here are my masterpieces. LOL! I definitely need more practice, but I am quite satisfied with what I did. 😀

I wouldn’t think twice if Liz will conduct another workshop! It was a very fun-filled workshop, and I wish that we’ll have more time to paint on the next one. There’s a Facebook Group called “Watercolorists of Manila” if you want to join the fun! I hope that more people will join the next workshop (wishing for another one!), and I also wish to be more skillful on this new hobby!

Until my next post!

Hope you enjoyed reading!
